We've completely re-engineered our entry-level vest. A new coated ripstop fabric keeps the wind off the front and spray off the back, while the tightly knit side panels allow the vest to stretch to fit a wide range of shapes while keeping a close-to-body fit that eliminates fabric flapping in the wind. This is a modern interpretation of the wind shell jacket, the one you keep in your pocket for a long descent or put on for the first hour of the ride until the day warms up. That jacket used to be a simple affair — a nylon shell — but the lack of stretch meant that it had to be cut on the generous side to fit all body shapes, both on and off the bike. We've completely reimagined what the shell jacket should be and how it's constructed. We've added panels on the sides and the sleeves in a very high-stretch yet tightly knit fabric that allows us to give the jacket a modern, close-to-body fit for aero gains on any terrain, and it actually keeps more heat in than a jacket that's flapping about. We've kept it very compact so that it can pack away into minimal space in a jersey pocket. But we wanted to make it even more perfect, so we developed a new exclusive GORE-TEX INFINIUM WINDSTOPPER fabric that is both lighter and more water repellent than the old fabric while maintaining the stretch and breathability. We matched it up with better water repellency in the back while maintaining the breathability, and further improved details like the back pockets and reflectivity. NEAR WEIGHTLESS PROTECTION We have reinterpreted the classic wind vest to make it as svelte as the rest of your wardrobe. This vest is designed to completely block the wind on the front while allowing ample breathability on the back. The fabrics are so impossibly light that you'll be surprised at how much warmer you stay with this vest over your standard jersey. But the magic comes from the cut and the stretch fabric on the back, which take up all the loose fabric and make the vest fit close to body without feeling tight or looking ridiculous. NOT YOUR OLD-STYLE WIND JACKET If you're like us, there's a reason you're not using your old-style wind jacket more. With waterproof jackets like the Idro being lighter and more compact than ever, we felt it was time to reinvent a classic. In reality, the Aria Shell Jacket is very different from your flappy old jacket that either didn't protect you or didn't breathe. This jacket is an impossibly light layer that keeps the wind off the front of your body while allowing ample breathability through the mesh side panels. But what you'll really appreciate is how we use the stretch panels in the sides and on the back of the sleeves to make this jacket fit like a second skin: no flapping fabric, no cold air circulating inside the jacket, no more looking like a throwback to the Armstrong era. NOT YOUR NORMAL REMOVABLE-SLEEVE JACKET We went back to the design table to come up with a better way to make a removable-sleeve jacket and in the process created a brilliantly versatile jacket. The zippers sit just above the elbow and cover 3/4 of the circumference of the arm. With the sleeves in place, you have Castelli's top-performing Perfetto RoS long-sleeve jacket. Remove the sleeves and you have a real Gabba to wear with your Nano Flex arm warmers. The zippers are covered so you don't see them from the outside or feel them from the inside. For Winter 2019 the Perfetto Convertible gets the RoS treatment: Rain or Shine. The same breathability and fit you've come to expect from the Perfetto, but now with significantly improved rain protection, including seam sealing on the shoulders. We've also differentiated the fabrics so you get extra warmth on forward-facing surfaces and lighter stretch on rear-facing surfaces. We always thought a jacket that becomes a vest is kinda useless.
