This is a modern interpretation of the wind shell jacket, the one you keep in your pocket for a long descent or put on for the first hour of the ride until the day warms up. That jacket used to be a simple affair — a nylon shell — but the lack of stretch meant that it had to be cut on the generous side to fit all body shapes, both on and off the bike. We've completely reimagined what the shell jacket should be and how it's constructed. We've added panels on the sides and the sleeves in a very high-stretch yet tightly knit fabric that allows us to give the jacket a modern, close-to-body fit for aero gains on any terrain, and it actually keeps more heat in than a jacket that's flapping about. We've kept it very compact so that it can pack away into minimal space in a jersey pocket. The ideal tight for most of your winter riding, the Velocissimo is focused on comfort for riding in mild to cool conditions. We've used our Thermoflex fabric for most of the tight. It's not our warmest fabric, nor does it repel water like Nano Flex, but it is the softest, stretchiest winter tight fabric. The comfort is immediate and lasting. For the lower leg from just below the knee, we switch to our Nano Flex fleeced stretch-woven fabric that's both warm and highly water repellent for protection against spray coming off wet roads. The first aero jersey project was called Split Second When Castelli engineered the first aero jersey for road racing back in 2006, everyone thought we were crazy. Back then, aero was only for TTS. Performance clothing meant moisture management. And you could win the Tour de France with a baggy jersey that was little more than a polyester t-shirt. It's an old trick to wear a great bibshort underneath a tight or bibtight without a seat pad to give two layers over the sensitive bits, and this tight lets you avoid having double straps over your shoulders. This jacket does three things really well: the Tempesta Stretch fabric provides full waterproof protection, the four-way stretch makes it fit any body type, and it looks great on and off the bike. Compared with our more expensive GORE-TEX Idro jackets, you give up the best-in-class breathability and extreme packability, but you gain a stretch fit and increased durability. We developed the fabric to our own specifications to make a jacket that is fully waterproof, comfortably stretchy, packable enough to fit in a jersey pocket, and with an appearance and hand that make it look great. This is meant to be a rain shell worn over a jersey, so we've forgone the external pockets and kept the construction simple to minimize seams.
